Merrick Farmstead is a dream come true for Jamie and Kyle Merrick. Kyle from the city originally and Jamie from the country, somehow these two came together and found their joy in bringing people closer to animals.
Kyle is a computer nerd to the max who’s biggest animal growing up was a Guinea Pig, and Jamie growing up on a Farm with animals galore. After meeting and falling madly in love, Jamie continued to ask Kyle if they could get animals to have on their property, at which he refused. Then One day out of the woods, literally, comes strutting a gorgeous Rhode Island Red rooster. Apparently he had been kicked from his flock and was seeking refuge wherever he could get it.
As the days went by, the Rooster would show up outside Kyle and Jamies house…crowing very loudly in the wee morning hours. Kyle was not impressed, but because of his wife’s joy in having the Rooster around the yard, he let it slide. Eventually, they named the Rooster Steve, because Kyle needed something to yell at it in the mornings. A couple weeks later and some secret feedings from Jamie, Steve the Rooster was locked in on the Merrick’s being his family FOREVER!
One Night, Steve strutted into the garage scared to death, and after Jamie pleading with Kyle to let Steve stay, Steve was allowed to perch in the garage.
This one act of accepting a lone Rooster would change Kyle to understand Animals in a whole new way. Jamie had learned early on in childhood that the heart is softened and warmed by these creatures God has given us to look after, and now she had shown her husband Kyle just how much love and joy can be had in Animals.
From that day forward, and many…i mean many animals later. Merrick Farmstead was born with the intent to bring people closer to animals, and bring joy to their hearts.
